“You are the light of the world; a city that is set upon a hill cannot be hid”. Matthew 5:14.
Jesus refers to us as light, light of the world. What is light?! Physics defines light as a form of energy; therefore, suggesting that light possesses capabilities. Newtonian physics describes light as a wave: a propagation of energy. De Broglien’s physics describes light as both a wave and particulate matter, suggesting that light possesses particles that transmit its energy. Light defines human existence. The laws of thermodynamics explains that every spontaneous and sustainable system in nature requires the flow of energy from one form to another; the existence of our world depends on the energy that comes from the sun. The energy that flows from one life form to another, all come from the light of the sun. Light gives us life; light sustains the earth; light is why we exist. As life evolved, organisms developed means to understand their environment, to perceive their environs. Visualization has remained the most accurate means to perceive, interpret and monitor our environs. Light gives us perception; it gives us vision. The daytime is the peak of human activity because light gives direction. Light also gives perspective and clarity. Darkness does not exist independently; darkness is the absence of light. Darkness brings nothing but confusion, fear, uncertainty, ambiguity, and terror. We have been called as light to relinquish darkness. What does this mean? We have been called to be solutions to the terror, confusion, evil, and fear that has plagued the world. We are the hope of a better world; our very existence should be that ray of hope for a lost world. “Let your light so shine before men, so that they may see your good work and glorify your father in heaven”. Matthew 5:16.
We possess hope for the world; the light of God resides in us. Now, more than ever, the world needs saving, the world needs our light. Do not bury your light under the systems of this world.
How do we shine our light? The light we possess is a reflection of the light of the world. Like the moon, which does not produce its own light but reflects light from the sun, let us align with the ‘Son’. By positioning ourselves with God, our source of light, through a relationship with him, we have a chance of saving the world.
