  LIGHT

” Let there be light,” the Creator said. But His creations delight in night. Darkness hovers over the earth once more, turning blind eyes to His everlasting radiance. “Thy word have I hidden in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.” That same heart is now the Genesis of my sins, Hindering Your word from entering this hollow organ, filled with deceit, fear, jealousy, and anger. Yet, I’m made to shine bright, because He who made me is Light. Does this Light know the torture I get in my sleep? The torment and grief that lay low in this hollow organ? Where was Light when reality came knocking at the door like an invited guest, bearing gifts I disdain? When I had to tread the path of scorpions and snakes, that path I dread to this day? Let’s talk about when He said, “You are the head and not the tail.” But if repeating a class three times makes you the head, then you can call me “Olori Ebi.” The preacher in church today spoke about You, Joy and calmness evident in his eyes and voice, as he called You his Savior, his Light. Darkness feels comforting to me in an awkward kind of way. A part of me needs a bit of Light, a flicker of Light, that twitch which indicates that all hope isn’t lost. Constantly surrounded by the wails and woes of this world, yet I’m made to shine bright, because He who made me is Light. He who serves the Light of the world cannot be in the world. The Light shines in the darkness, but the darkness comprehends it not. Me, receiving Him, to become His own. I hear the sound of similar footsteps and clanking chains, The sounds that brew terror in me. But I’ve been called out of darkness into His Light. They marvel at the right bestowed upon me, The right to tread on scorpions and snakes. The Lord is my Light and my shield; whom shall I fear? In the order of John, I witness the Light, that all men may believe: A Light for revelation, A Light amongst men, A Light of hope, A Light that says… The devil is defeated.
