There’s always been a very common misconception that we can’t look beautiful while dressing modestly. It seems as though when people think of modest dressing they think of long-sleeved shirts, oor-length skirts, and turtle necks. I remember thinking like that at a point. I remember when I first gained admission to Bowen and was reading through the Handbook. The first that stood out to me was the fact that there was a very strict dress code. Prior to Bowen, I had only worn skirts once a week as part of school uniform and the skirt length was very exible.
Initially, I wondered why Abba would send me to a school where my beauty would be hidden under long skirts. I tried to find a scriptural backing for why I needed to wear long skirts or conform to this version of modesty. I didn’t find what I was looking for but I found some scriptures that shone a little light on what the Bible said about it. Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceptive and beauty disappears, but a woman who honors the Lord should
be praised. 1 Timothy 2:9 I also want the women to be modest and sensible about their clothes and to dress properly As I began to open my eyes to the reality that this was going to be my life for the next four years, I
started to look for ways to wear knee-length skirts and still look fashionable. Almost 2 years later, I can say that I have accomplished my goal. I believe the misconception that people can’t dress modestly and be fashionable is due to lack of knowledge. It is possible to stand for Abba, be modest and still look fabulous in your dressing.
Take it from me.
