The Great Commission

Now I understand why I’m always disinterested when called out for evangelism. Everyone who knows me well would think that I’m always enthusiastic about going out for evangelism, but that’s not the case. Like many believers, I deeply desire to be full in the knowledge of God. However, I prefer to stay in my space and keep the knowledge personal. This way, I feel secure in my relationship with God, but I’m just not keen on actively evangelizing. Today, we were scheduled for hospital evangelism, and honestly, I didn’t want to go. Interestingly, several excuses to stay behind, flooded my mind: exams to study for, my parents’ expectations to read and pass my exams and more. I was content reading until a brother knocked on my door, signaling it was time to go. I asked him to go ahead while I continued reading. However, I soon felt uneasy, sensing conviction from within my spirit. After a while, I eventually decided

to join. Along the way, I prayed for God’s mercy and direction as I hadn’t prepared anything to talk about. He then, provided a topic. During evangelism, someone asked a question that resonated with a previous revelational word encounter I had the Lord, and I eagerly shared the knowledge with excitement. Upon reflection at home after the evangelism, God began revealing

deeper insights into the same question. What I thought God has already taught me everything about, he began to teach me more about it. This revealed to me that, “there’s always ‘deeper

still-knowledge’ about God that we can learn when we pour out in evangelism, what he has previously taught us.” It’s just like emptying a vessel already overflowing with old oil, so it can receive fresh one. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed this: “I often learn more about God in the process of teaching others about Him, it was then I understood that “my lack of enthusiasm for

the call to evangelism stems from my flesh resisting the deepening of my knowledge and relationship with God that comes through it.” I share this because I know many desires a deeper

encounter with God. Prayer and studying the Word are crucial, but from my experience, evangelism is essential for receiving more from God and knowing Him better. The parable of talents in Matthew 25:14-30 supports this: “those good servants faithful in investing their given talents (signifying the revelational knowledge of God in this case) were entrusted with more.” Some may think they don’t know enough about God or aren’t living perfectly enough to evangelize. However, I’ve found that talking about God with others leads to deeper understanding and application of His Word in daily life. No wonder it is called ‘the great

commission’. Knowing God and walking with him is pertinent for every believer as it is our pathway to eternity. Evangelism has proven to be one indispensable means and i encourage every believer to dive into it.I pray God for his grace to engage tirelessly and enthusiastically in evangelism.
