The dictionary defines Mission as a special assignment that is given to a person or group of individuals. In the military, it is known as an operation that is assigned by the higher headquarters. Some other source defines Mission as the divine activity of sending intermediaries whether supernatural or human to speak or do God’s will so that his purpose of redemption are furthered. You would agree with me that these various definitions seem to intersect at a point of focus which is that Mission is a task one is sent to do. Having laid an introduction as to what Mission means, Missions in itself is proclaiming the message of Christ where he has not been preached before. Missions involves taking the gospel of Christ to people of a different language, tribe or kindred (Acts 1:8, Mark 16: 15) You may be shocked to know that there are still millions of persons that are yet to know about Jesus. There are nations still wallowing in their idolatrous practices and customs and have never heard about Jesus. Hence It is very important for us to know that we are not just called to know him but also to make him known to others. That was what he meant in Mtt 4:19, when he said he would make Simon Peter and Andrew Fishers of men meaning they were going to draw men unto him. In Mtt 9:37, the Bible draws our attention to the fact that the harvest (souls that needs to know about Christ) is plentiful, however the labourers (missionaries) are few, how loving would it be if we all take the ministry of reconciliation of men to Christ personal? 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 mentions that God has given us the responsibility of preaching the gospel and the beautiful thing is that there is no racial, tribal or gender preference (Romans 1:16) “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done” For his kingdom to come, he needs men, He needs You and he needs me!
