I grew up in a typical Christian Nigerian home, going through the motions of a normal Chris- tian life like going to church, having family morning prayers/devotion, etc. These were typical Christian routines but without actually knowing what I was doing. It seemed like that was the norm (though certain children, even from non-Christian back- grounds had a form of morality from the beliefs of their parents, and those in Christian families, also practicing what I have been practicing) making us as children have a feel of the lifestyle and this made it difficult to leave that way of life even if I never really knew Jesus, and for other children, whatever their parents believed in experientially. Just like Gideon in the Bible, it took me a while and some really tough challenges to truly experience God; and since then, God has also been truly evident. This experience happened on a faithful day, on my way to Yenagoa from Akwa Ibom (Uyo). A man who understood “Exerting Kingdom Influence” got up to exert this influence by giving the word of God on the bus (one of the methods I believe kingdom influencers should use to reach out to those who were religious like me, whether born into Christian families, Muslim families or traditionalist; but not Godly). After the word, God through His servant told me to try to experience Him for myself and I would see how much He would do in my life. He started by saying I should begin my daily personal bible study. Immediately I got home, I started it, and lo and behold, what was a huge burden to me at that moment, the very thing that made me embark on the journey to Uyo, that remained unsolved, was solved in a short while after continuous time with God in the place of Bible study and prayers. After that incident, I understood how much impact simply manning and dominating your station for Christ can reflect in the life of someone you may not even know. A hymn stuck with me since then: “Jesus bids us shine, with a clear, pure light, like a little candle burning in the night; In this world of darkness, we must shine, You in your small corner, And I in mine.” If only Christians understand this song. These days we see Christian workers and executives being reluctant to carry out their work, maybe due to laziness or lack of understanding that they are the lords of that area they have been given to mount and God will require from them, what He has given to them, and only the faithful lords are expected to be lorded by The Lord. After all, he is the Lord of Lords, and He is the King of kings: Therefore, if you are not a king over where He has placed you, and if you’re not bringing Godly influence and dominion wherever you are, can we really say God is your King? Because He is the King of Kings (A King to Kings), so be a king. If you are not killing the domain that God put you in, someone else or something might just be kinging you, a child of God, and that is not the aim of you being created and placed in that niche (Gen 1:26). If you are not transforming the lives of others, these ‘others’ are definitely transforming you, and the people God put you in charge to transform, and it may not be for God. I, therefore, want to encourage us to intentionally begin to influence our space and everywhere we find ourselves for Jesus. Great is your reward on earth and so it will be in heaven. Never lose an opportunity to make Jesus proud.
