THE RIGHT ATTITUDE TOWARDS CHRISTIAN MISSION

Missions are all about enlightening the public on a topic of interest. This can be achieved through planned efforts where groups of people preach, raise awareness, or educate the public on various matters.

The ultimate goal of any mission is to enlighten, inspire, and expose people to the subject of interest. In this context, Christian missions are a divine calling, mandate, and duty for all Christians to spread the gospel through their actions, words, and conduct, both publicly and in our everyday lives.

In recent times, the term “Christian missions” often conjures images of missionaries, evangelists, crusaders, and pastors. While these individuals play a crucial role, they represent only a small facet of true Christian missions. This responsibility extends to all believers. As followers of Christ, we must embrace the Great Commission outlined in Matthew 28:19-20:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

As members of the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria (CMDA-Nigeria), we have been granted a unique opportunity to serve God as medical professionals entrusted with a Christian mission. Our calling extends beyond physical healing to the body to encompass the care of the soul and spirit of man.

This is our calling! This is our mission!

Having established this, what constitutes the right attitude towards Christian missions? How can we fulfil this mission with the necessary charisma, diligence, and effectiveness? How do we become proficient doctors who care for the spirit, soul and body?

The answer is simple.

We must live exemplary lives; one worthy of emulation. We should seize every opportunity to share the gospel, counsel our fellow believers, and correct those who have strayed.

As CMDA members, we occupy a position of influence having been brought to the spotlight. Our patients, families, and friends look to us not only for medical care but also for inspiration, guidance, and the willpower to lead good lives. By approaching Christian missions with this mindset, we can truly realize the mission and vision of CMDA.

“Our calling extends beyond physical healing to the body to encompass the care of the soul and spirit of man.”

In conclusion, we are encouraged to be active participants in CMDA. Joining at least one board and fully engaging in CMDA activities is essential. Most importantly, we must live lives that exemplify the gospel, allowing our actions to speak louder than words.
