Personal Development has to do with every aspect of one’s life which cuts across the spiritual, mental, physical, emotional and social aspects. Personal Growth goes hand in hand and might be used interchangeably with Personal Development. Personal Growth has to do with the strong desire to become a better (if possible, the best) version of one’s self. Personal Development has to do with improving one’s self and skills. Personal Growth involves others. As one tries to grow, it reflects in your relationship with others. Some people feel this is not important or it is necessary but not that important. We are not perfect and as such we have traits that should be worked on if not, it will affect our relationship with people. When we talk about Personal Growth/ Development, a balance is required. Some people concentrate on only one aspect and leave the rest. Let us take Mental growth and Emotional growth for example. The effort some people put in Mental growth alone amazes me. Do not get me wrong! Mental growth is very important but that does not mean you should give it your all and neglect the remaining. There is what is known as I.Q. (Intelligence Quotient) in Mental growth and E.Q. (Emotional Quotient) in Emotional growth. Let me paint a picture here, if we try to measure the I.Q. of some people, it might not be less than 80. Some might be 100 or even more (genius) but in the same vein, if we try to measure the E.Q. of those individuals based on only one branch of Emotional growth (Empathy), we might be shocked to see the outcome. Personal Development is a continuous process. It can start in one day but won’t end in one day. We need one another but for some of us, our attitude and lifestyle serve as a barrier and so fostering a smooth relationship becomes difficult. The truth is that, some of us do not know we need to grow in all aspects. Although some people are extremely good in one aspect but deficient in others, SOME OF US ARE VERY COMFORTABLE THE WAY WE ARE. Some people are struggling with arrogance/pride, anger, laziness and many more. YOUR ABILITY TO LEARN TO PUT THIS UNDER CONTROL MEANS YOU ARE GROWING PERSONALLY. Always prioritize Personal Development.
