As we see more of the world become increasingly secular, it is important to reiterate the fundamental assumptions that undergird the Christian faith. The growing irreligiosity in this age often tugs at the fundamental pillars that hold our beliefs, sometimes leading to a gradual tearing apart of one’s faith – often tagged ‘deconstruction’. At the heart of deconstruction sometimes, is a struggle with the basic assumptions of Christianity, leading to a gradual and eventual abandonment of the faith. In math and logic, an axiom is an unprovable rule or first principle that is accepted as self-evidently true. The Christian faith also presents us with some fundamental presuppositions upon which a firm understanding is built. These truths cannot be subjected to scientific tests, making them unprovable. However, God provides the basis for these truths and our volition to find the truth about Him, guides our intellect in accepting these truths, while the Holy Spirit helps us to believe. The one who comes to the Christian faith must be willing to take the evidence that God Himself pro- vided that: God Exists “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is and He is a just rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” Hebrews 11:6 NKJV The seeker must believe that there is a God to be found. He must be satisfied with God being the re- ward and object of his search. God Does no Evil; He is good “For the Lord is good: His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations” Psalms 100:5 Christians fundamentally believe that God defines good. He in fact, is The Good and our frame of reference is too temporal for us to assume that we can judge good by ourselves. He does no evil and all things considered good flows from Him. God is Sovereign, His ways are Incomprehensible “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heaven are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than yours” Isaiah 55:8-9 NKJV God’s sovereignty over all is an important pillar of the Christian faith. Our knowledge of God must acknowledge that He is far greater than us in ways inconceivable to the human mind. Our Purpose flows from Him “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” Ephesians 5:10 NKJV We derive our source from nothing outside of God. He defines our lives and our meaning flows from Him. As Christians, we would have questions at different points in our faith. However, at each turn, her hearts must be disposed to believing the answers that God Himself provides and those moments remember that God is enough reward for the seeking heart.
