In a world full of uncertainties, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the thoughts and pressures of tomorrow. We often find ourselves caught up in the worries and cares of tomorrow that we forget to live in the present. We are so focused on what tomorrow holds that we forget to live in the moment and enjoy today’s blessings. We forget that the One who holds tomorrow has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. We live full of fear and doubt about what might go wrong in the future and forget to embrace the seasons we are in. It’s easy to slip into worry and anxiety about what we can’t completely control. The Bible says in Matthew, “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to your lifespan?” (Matthew 6:27). This doesn’t discredit planning for the future, goal setting, or having a vision; rather, it encourages planning ahead while focusing on today’s tasks, embracing the opportunities, challenges, and struggles that come with it. It encourages leaving tomorrow’s challenges for tomorrow rather than worrying about them today. It encourages working wholeheartedly on today’s tasks rather than being anxious about how tomorrow’s tasks will be completed.
So, from today, I urge you to live one day at a time. Ask God for strength for each day’s battle, submit all your cares and worries to Him, be grateful for today, and surrender your tomorrow to Him. “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). Live one day at a time!
