ADDICTION

The dictionary defines, ‘ADDICTION’ as the act of having a strong physical or mental urge to do something without taking into account its negative consequences. ADDICTION IS A DEADLY DISEASE.

It is a canker worm that devours your soul and leaves you empty. You become a slave. (John 8:34).  Addiction robs you of your beautiful future and impedes your spiritual growth.  There’s no doubt that you would lose yourself in it.  Most believers to struggle with an addiction and being born again does not guarantee a cessation of addiction.  Dealing with addiction

1) Acknowledge your addiction. We can sometimes trick ourselves into believing that it’s not an addiction because we don’t do it regularly. It’s an addiction because you can’t discipline yourself to avoid engaging in the act.  Soon it becomes a regular routine for you.

 2) Commit yourself to being deliberate when dealing with addiction. Perhaps your inability to stop it is due to a lack of intentionality. You have consented to being weakened by it.  Reminisce the moments when you wanted to engage in it, but your conscience would tell you not to, but then you would tell your conscience back, you know I am weak and I have to do it. My friend, I urge you to stand your ground. Get involved in activities that will distract you from that addiction. (Reading, Praying)

 3) Pinpoint your triggers, and eliminate them.  Intentionally let go of the things that fuel your desire.

  4) Make God your addiction and get busy with Him!
